Action photo of one-legged figure skater, Norman A. Falkner.

Action photo of one-legged figure skater, Norman A. Falkner, skating on a pond or outdoor rink, probably in Ontario where he moved after losing a leg in World War I. He and Phil Taylor both came from Saskatoon, both lost a leg in the war, and both continued to skate despite their missing limb. Norman Falkner, whose name is sometimes spelled Faulkner, was the son of Clinton T. Falkner, one-time City Treasurer, who died in the typhoid epidemic of 1908.

Formal studio portrait of Phil Taylor.

Formal studio portrait of Phil Taylor. A note on the back states that he was "the best fancy ice skater in Saskatoon". What was unusual about this was the fact that he only had one leg! "He lost a leg at the knee in war of 1914. He married an Australian girl and moved there but kept on skating on one leg. Made a one-man show on the rinks of the United States. I saw him do this about 1947 or 1948 at Dreamland Rink in San Francisco"
